Can you share a bit about your career path leading up to your current role?
I broke the family computer with LimeWire around 2002, which I had to learn how to fix myself. The process of learning how to fix it was enough to make me want to continue tinkering and eventually lead to seeking out a career in IT.
What accomplishments are you most proud of in your career?
Being part of Wright Technology Group from just two people to the team we have today has been the most rewarding experience in my professional life. It has forced me to grow in so many ways that I will use for the rest of my life both professionally, and personally.
Do you have any unique skills or talents?
I have an insane drive for troubleshooting things I'm interested in, both IT and non-IT related. I have spent many 20+ hour days working on something I'm engrossed in, just to continue the next day until I get everything just the way I want. This quality has helped immensely both in my career and my home life.
What’s something surprising about you that others might not know?
I am a pretty solid Guitar Hero / Rock Band player and plan to go all out on a setup when my fiancé and I buy a house.
What advice would you give to someone starting their career in this field?
Take advantage of every opportunity you get to continue learning new things, both in this field and outside it. You will be surprised by how many "non-IT" things in life can be applied to the IT field. The biggest example being customer service, and how you interact with others in general. Learning how to listen and treat people with respect will take you very far in life, IT very much included.
Who has been a mentor or influence in your career, and why?
At every step in my career, I have always had at least one person who has made a big impact on me, whether through their technical capabilities or just how they look at life. Out of everyone I could list, Howard Wright is probably the most impactful. Howard had hired me almost 15 years ago when I had very little overall knowledge and stuck with me until I could hold my own.
